For schoolchildren

The Yevhen Lazarenko Mineralogical Museum of Ivan Franko National University of Lviv offers guided tours and thematic sessions for schoolchildren of all ages. Tours are adapted to the students' age and can be customized upon request.

We invite teachers of Natural Science, Geography, and Chemistry to hold their lessons at the Museum. Based on the selected topic, we will provide relevant mineral specimens, educational information, and necessary equipment.

Thematic classes for schoolchildren

First Introduction to Minerals (Grades 1–3 | Duration: up to 1 hour
Іntroduction to the world of minerals: a story about the most common and beautiful specimens, hands-on activities to identify minerals and their properties, and an art workshop

Minerals in a Schoolbag (Grades 3–5 | Duration: 1 hour)
A story about the minerals that surround us in daily life—in school backpacks, at home, and even in food! Exploration of relevant museum specimens, a fun quest with prizes, and a workshop on making a souvenir card with a crystal.

All About Volcanoes (Grades 3–6 | Duration: 1 hour 20 min)
Through an engaging presentation and a visual volcano model, students learn why, how, and where volcanoes form. They will examine products of volcanic eruptions and create their own volcano models during the workshop.

Fascinating Facts About Salt (Grades 3–7 | Duration: 1 hour 20 min
Halite is the only mineral essential for human survival. Students will learn how salt looks in nature, the shapes of its crystals, and how it is mined and used. The session includes a tour of the Museum's halite collection and a "salty souvenir" workshop.

Mineralogy and Chemistry (Grades 7–9 | Duration: 1 hour 20 min
Minerals are natural crystalline chemical compounds. We explore mineral properties related to their chemical composition through experiments and a quest. The session includes a visit to the Faculty of Geology’s laboratory to see how students grow crystals.

Mineralogy and Art (Grades 2–6 & 7–11 | Duration: 1 hour / 1 hour 20 min)
A discussion on the use of minerals in various art forms. Students will examine pigment minerals and participate in a workshop to create paints from natural pigments and produce their own artwork.

Minerals and Ores of Ukraine (Grades 8–11)
A study of Ukraine’s mineral resources and ores, focusing on species first discovered and described in Ukraine. Includes a mapping activity and a quiz with prizes.
