Facts about salt (the mineral halite) that you have certainly never heard before — how it is formed, how it is mined, and how it is used. A presentation of the museum’s halite collection and an engaging workshop.On Friday, 30 January 2026, the Mineralogical Museum invites children and teenagers to the session “Interesting Facts about Salt”.At our meeting, you will learn facts about salt that you have not heard before. Halite (salt) is the only mineral resource without which humans cannot exist at all. What is the significance of salt in the history of humankind? What does the mineral halite look like in nature, and what are the shapes and colours of its crystals and aggregates? How are salt deposits formed and why are seas salty? How is salt mined and what are the main areas of its use?We will present the museum’s collection of halite specimens from different parts of the world.In addition, a workshop on making a souvenir is planned for young participants.
